Continuing Education

For nearly 30 years, BSR Services has been among the most progressive North American snow contractors when it comes to managing safety and risk

For example, in August the entire office staff at BSR Services became ASCA certified.

Nick Mossotti, our director of operations says: “We have always felt very strongly in continuing education for our employees. Having everyone complete the entire course will not only separate us from the competition, it shows an advanced level of professionalism and knowledge that benefits not only our team, but our clients, as well.”

The snow and ice management industry is more than just pushing snow and spreading salt. As professional snow fighters, we are no strangers to managing risk in the worst conditions winter can throw at us. Therefore, the more training we receive throughout the year, the better prepared we will be to battle these difficult conditions.

We continue to use the same best practices when developing our own in-house training program, aptly named “BSR University.” All of our team members are required to complete training in safety and in their specialized field of operation. Many of our existing clients and potential clients are requiring we complete a formal, documented training program before the team members are allowed to service their sites. These processes continue to weed out the “low-ball and uninsured” snow plow guys in our market who potentially drive down pricing year after year.

Recently, the ASCA introduced the ISO9001/SN9001 industry standards and quality management system to the snow removal industry. At BSR Services, we have begun the process to become ISO9001/SN9001 certified.

Mossotti says, “There are many benefits to achieving the ISO certification including a stronger legal defense against slip and falls, potentially lower insurance rates and a positive sales tool for clients. This is just another tool in the tool box that we have that shows our commitment to training and implementing best industry practices throughout our company.”

All of this has influenced BSR to implement a number of changes to how we attack snow and ice management, and as a result, we can serve clients more effectively and operate more efficiently.

For example, a recent investment in new technology allows us to track our crews and equipment in real time throughout an event. This feature ensures accurate routing and tracking during the storm. Everything that takes place from start to finish is downloaded immediately to be reviewed and processed. As a result, we’ve reduced countless office hours in invoicing and generating checks for our team members. Clients appreciate the timely invoicing especially during back-to-back storms when things can get a bit hairy.

As we move forward, BSR Services will continue to seek out new ways to train its team members and remain at the industry’s leading edge, all with the goal of providing the most professional snow and ice management services in our market.
